when I had chickens befor every one talked about RIRs, but I never could find any when I was wanting to add to my flock. Well I got my chance this past aug, we go through eggs like crazy, so I desided to get some hens. my family knowing I was looking got me 9 chicks, 1 OEGB that I lost to a cat, 4 Delawares, and 4 RIR pullets.
Mine are real talkers, and fussers. they are getting better about being handled, and have never been to spooky, but I still don't know what to think of them. I guess bantams and games are more my typ, cuz few LF turn my head. I do love that deep red color though.

these are the only pics I have of them at this point

you can see some of the darker coloring on the feet in the last pic. I like that girl the best, out of the RIRs. there is one that is a little lighter then the other 3, she hit me in the face the other morning. she is always jumping into the feed dish (I still need a feeder) when I pick it up to fill it.

I'm out here in the WV Panhandle area!

Thanks Chris09...I'll try and PM Dick and see if he might be able to help!

Thanks again!

I believe he gets around $15.00 a dozen for hatching eggs.

Chris

Hi,
Here are my three hens. The oldest one, in back of first pic, was given to me with five others which were killed by raccoons. Before I got them. She is 4yrs old. The other two hens were given to me in Oct. They are 3yrs. old. The younger ones look a little different to me. Their combs are much bigger. Almost rooster like. Is this OK for a RIR? I think they are great looking birds. What do you learned RIRer's think. Could they be mutts or is this normal, or a different strain? Thanks for any input. P.S. The RIR thread is smaller than the colored eggers. We need more support.
