Is this little 8 week production RIR (both parents are production RIR from TSC) I think! Was wondering if someone could tell me the quality of the parents described above and If this one little offspring is a boy. Posting pics of mom, dad, and baby

The offspring looks like a girl at first glance. I cant attest to the quality of the parents as I just started with RIRs myself. My first group is about 12 weeks old and 5 out of 7 are male. I have some culling to do of course. Hoping someone near me wants a free cockerel or two or four....

I hope so, already 8 cockerels in the group lol. I feel for you. I’m just curious bc the “sister” has a smaller comb and none of that coloring in the tail (same exact parents). We’ll see, but hell what’s one more when you already have 8? Thanks for your response.

The chick is a pullet! In terms of quality of the parents, they're great for layers or pets, but not heritage or show-quality. Heritage RIR are pretty difficult to stumble upon. I've raised them in the past and they look very, very different from hatchery stock They have brick-like body types and a much darker mahogany color. They're also quite a bit larger in my opinion since the heritage have maintained their dual-purpose aspect. That doesn't mean your birds are of lesser "quality," just bred for a different purpose and would not show well and shouldn't be marketed as heritage! Still great pets and layers!

Gotcha!!! Definitely not going for SOP - but I separated all my little cockerels last night to a bachelor pad and left this one out because I wasn’t sure. Thank you! I feel like I just won something

They're very pretty birds! Your hen has a lot of black on her tail which I really like! Makes for a unique look

Thank you. She just hatched a clutch of what are supposedly EE / OEs (that’s why she has those bare spots on her chest). I’ll definitely be posting pics of them in the next few weeks. This is what I have so far

Thanks you guys! Now I only have 8 cockerels to worry about instead of 9. And the parents are awesome - mom is my broody, 11 month old pullet that just hatched the above clutch (from a different farm).
