Yesterday I noticed that one of my RIR hens was very listless and not running around with the others. She would walk real slow and sometimes sit down with her eyes closed. I also noticed that sometimes a stream of fluid would pour out of her beak and that sometimes her stools were pure liquid. She would still eat and drink.

Last night I put her in a dog crate by herself. Does anyone have an idea what she might have and what I should treat her with? Thanks.

I believe it would work to worm her with wazine
and you may have to take her and isolate her and keep her off feed for 24 hrs to see if she will then drink the medicated water
also see if she is able to eat some dry mash with yoguart on top
as that is about all she will need till her stomach is better

you may have to make the worm medicine and use a eye dropper to give it to her in her beak

does any of the other chickens show signs of watery manure?

have they been medicated for coccidiosis lately?

the wet mash probiotic is important after she is wormed
to ge the gut flora okay

any questions email me

Thanks for the replies. She seems to be about the same today. I bought some of the organic ACV today and gave her some a little while ago. She has been drinking since. She drank most of the regular water I had given her last night but maybe she likes the ACV water better. She ate some of the laying pellets I gave her but not much. I brought her some scratch and she was real interested in it and ate some of it. I saw some poop in the crate that looked pretty normal but was greenish in color.

I don't know if these chickens have been medicated for anything or not. I just got them a little over two weeks ago and they are about seven months old. My RIR rooster still sneezes quite a bit but acts normal and he has been doing it since I got him. He may have gotten the hen sick.

I've already called the guy I bought these chickens from about the Rooster sneezing and will be calling him again about this hen depending on what she does.

I will see about getting some wormer if you think thats what is wrong. I've not seen any physical signs of worms yet.

It has been hot and humid here but the rest of the chickens act fine.

Chloe, I notice you are from Sanford, NC. My mom lives in Bear Creek and one of my sisters use to live in Sanford.

Well, the hen is much worse. She cannot stand anymore and kind of lays to one side with her eyes closed most of the time. I think that her crop is impacted because it has been very full feeling and semi-hard. I gave her some olive oil the night before last and she drank quite a bit of it. I also have been massaging her crop which didn't seem to help much. She has been pooping, which is greenish and white in color and pretty loose.

I took her food away yesterday even though I don't think she has been eating. It looks like she drank a little yesterday. I have organic ACV in the water.

This morning when I checked her before I went to work, her crop felt smaller than it has been but the rest of her symptoms are the same. I'm at work all day so the only time I can do anything for her is in the evenings when I get off. I doubt she is going to live much longer.

Is there anything else I can do for her?

Well, my hen finally died. She died while I was at work. I hope the rest of them don't do this. Not a very good start at having chickens again after 24 years. My rooster who sneezes all of the time worries me even though he acts completely normal in all other respects.

Sorry for your loss.

I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

As for your rooster, since he is sneezing a lot, I would go to the search box and type in respitory infection. He may have one. You should be able to learn more this way.

May your hen rest in peace.

Thanks, I hated to see her suffer any longer. As for the Rooster, I have read quite a bit on here about respitory infections and none of them seem to quite fit. He doesn't act sick at all. No water eyes or discharges. Poop looks normal. He just sneezes alot. I guess I will try and do some more research.

I notice you are from Sanford, NC. My mom lives in Bear Creek, NC and one of my sisters used to live in Sanford. I'm actually coming out that way in a couple of weeks. Our family is renting a beach house for a week at Topsail Island.
