I’m wondering if her pale feathers are her new color or is this maybe a molt? She’s been this was for months and it seems to get more and more pale. At first I thought molt, but there aren’t many feathers laying around. She’s a year old.

It looks like she's been plucked or something. The pale part is just the part of the feathers that you don’t typically see because the top part is usually covering it.

Likely caused by excess preening and will not resolve or change until she actually does molt.. IF she molts those damaged feathers out.

Consider using a flashlight or headlamp and checking after dark looking for bugs crawling away from the light. Take note of skin condition.. is it smooth and yellow/pinkish.. or is there any sign of damage like scabs or angry red skin?

That’s what I was thinking too. Hmm thanks

Would a molt typically take this long? I hope that’s what it is. I did check her skin and under her wings, nothing that catches my eye. I’ll try the flashlight method. Thanks!
