We have a flock of ducks that free range on our pond and all over the yard !! So yesterday while the RIR were on their daily outing one of the roos did the deed with one of my ducks !! Is this normal ? Or is he weird? The only free range chickens we let out are the RIR and I have never seen this before but hubby said he did the same thing on Saturday as well. And I mean she squated for him and he jumped right on and did not get off until the deed was finished and it was longer than with the chicken girls !!! Any ideas why ?? I have 14 RIR girls in with 4 RIR roos so their are plenty of chickens for him to mate with why a duck ?????

I had one RIR roo that did the same thing when I got
White pekin ducklings. Except my ducks weren't willing partners
And so when the ducklings grew up and were 8lb ducks,
The tables were turned and the duck returned the favor.

It was rather amusing watching the ducks chase the roo
Around until they started tearing his comb by grabbing
Hold and holding him down while they returned the favor.
I had to get rid of the roo, and they don't do it to any others.

Good luck!

I had a peacock who enjoyed our RIR hens on the farm when I was a kid. I guess avian love knows no boundries.

Yes, my rooster preferred the ducks to the hens anyday!

And now I've got 1 duck mounting the others and they are all suppose to be girls, even had gotten 3 eggs a day from them but now only getting 2 eggs???

My BO roo mated the ducks(which were male) up until I got rid of them.Or should I say he tried to. Not sure it's anatomically possible since they were male too.
