RIR with a blue neck -_-

Are you going to keep him? I would love to see what he looks like as an adult.
yeah was gonna wait and see what he looks like at 12 months and might start a little project to see if i can reproduce the same results, 1 out of 240 hatches -_- when he gets old enough to breed ill throw him someone pretty like his mother in hopes that his offspring will share his unique patterns

My Guess is that the person you got the chicks from had another breed in with the hens and did not wait a month after separating into breeding pens

It looks like you have a cross breed of some sort
thats what i thought too, but seriously none of the others have have that out of 240 hatchs he was the only one and i only have rir so i dunno i know it wasnt on my end of the farm lol, but you maybe right, thinking about getting some heritage rir to breed back into the flock

It would have been because of the later end of the time with the new rooster. The old sperm will still sneak in even after 30 days. Do you know if the hatch he was in fits a time frame like that?

I love genetics. I bet he is going to be absolutely gorgeous, his dad is stunning too.

thank you ^_^ haha thats a 2x4 he is standing on, that guy is freakin huge, weighs a little over 10 lbs and stands at 2'5" that was a terrible pic ill take a new pic soon, his mahogany color has a faint golden shine to it when the sun hits it just right, his tail feathers are so black they have a blue shine much like his sons neck feathers and tail feathers ^_^

theres no other breed on my farm lol, those 240 hatchs were over a 5 month time from he is from month 3 and is a little over 2 months old give or take a few days, and i gathered and hatched those myself so the problem may be his dad isnt full blood rir.....i dunno i may scratch this project and sell out and start with something new

Your parents look to be pure. I agree, it's just a fluke.

It would be cool if you could start breeding them to have that!
Imagine a RIR with blue shiny hackles, saddle, and sickle feathers! It would be stunning!

haha my wife said the same thing but then my kiddos couldnt show them :lau is what i said and she didnt care for that answer lol

Are they Bantams? Could be something used to get them smaller. I do not recall seeing a color like that in lF Reds.

You could be onto something!

When you get that picture I would love to see it!

no bantams, he is only a few months old so he only weighs a little over a pound or two but he is bigger than his sisters atm buy a few inches and heavier too, it may be just as others have said maybe just a genetic anomaly 1 in 240 hahahahahaha, gonna hatch another 240 over the next 5 months to see if i can get another one like him
