RIR's are my favorite chicken and I decided to go that route instead. I am looking for some "Old Type" Broody RIRs that are still good layers. As I have been looking I see them as advertised as "SC" and "RC" what do these mean? Thanks for the help

Hi there,
Single comb and rose comb....have you tried the ALBC website for breeders of heritage RIRs'? They have a listing of breeders and you may have one near you,

It is wonderful to see another person interested in heritage Rhode Island Reds! I bred single combed Rhode Island Reds and they are truly wonderful birds!

There are many good breeders working with Rhode Island Reds! The question is, do you want Rosecomb or Single Combed Fowl? (Basically, Rosecombs are less likely to get frostbite in colder climates)

For Rosecomb: You can try Dick Horstman, Urch/Turland, Hilltop Farm
For Single Comb: You can try Dick Horstman, Hilltop Farm, or myself at Quick Family Farm

Some good places for those of us interested in Heritage Reds!
