I thought I had these guys pegged as speckled sussexes especially when they were younger. They had the chipmunk baby pattern and then lots of white on the wings. However, now that they're about 3 months old, there is nary a spot in sight. I got a mixed bag of brown egg layers from Meyer's, which is why I don't know what they are (on top of my own newness to the whole chicken thing) so I was hoping you guys could help me figure out what exactly these pretty ladies are. Those are RIR's---- Speckled Sussex at that age would be Speckled

Aha yeah, the reason I thought they were SS is because they didn't look like RIR or production red chicks when I got them as hatchlings.

Can you get close, clear pictures of their combs. They look pea combed to me. Which would make them Buckeyes. And Meyers does list Buckeyes in their Brown Egg Layer Assortment.

Nope guess not. They look to be Rhode Island Red. Nice color for hatchery birds too!

C: thanks for confirming. I was pretty sure they were RIR until I saw how much the Production Reds looked like them, and I'm not chicken-wise enough to tell the little differences. I appreciate the help!
