Rising cost of groceries...

Three in diapers? You're entitled.

We are container gardening since we can't have a "real" garden this year. We have tomatoes, peppers, cilantro, cucumbers, stevia. And next week the green beans are going in the kiddie pool (my easy, cheap version of a raised bed...) Also a watermelon plant and some onions in what used to be the front yard flower bed. And the side yard flower bed got some asparagus plants today. They won't produce for about 3 years I am told, but it's a long term investment:p

We also are starting our backyard flock, buying at farmers markets, and canning. Like many have said, I am learning. I think this economy is going to get worse.

Yeah I don't think I could pay that much for lobster...come to think of it, I don't think I've ever eaten lobster...

I wonder, does anyone know how much money they save by raising chickens? You know, not having to buy eggs and meat and stock?

No you do not save. Large nondescript battery eggs are 2.28 a dz. at Wally World. My girls supplies cost me around 25.00 a weeks for 21 chickens. I can buy eggs cheaper then feeding those Pigs oh I mean chickens.

Years and years ago I did this, and it was good. Cooked meat and onion, added the flavor packet, put in some water...not too much, added broken up Ramen noodles and cooked and stirred letting them soften. Partway through, added frozen peas. Add small amounts of liquid as needed. The end result was the noodles cooked, but no liquid left. I'd almost forgotten about it, but there was never any left!

Pat, That's quite true. My cleaning supplies are as follows: vinegar, baking soda, salt, lemon juice, olive oil, and my one nod to commercial products, Oxi-Clean, which btw, can be used in place of detergents for your clothes. They get clean, actually clean.

I wash anything glass with a water and vinegar solution. Wood furniture? Mix olive oil and lemon juice, wet a cloth with it, wring until there's nothing dripping, and start rubbing down the furniture. Etc. etc. Vingar can be gotten in 1 gallon bottles cheaply, baking soda is usually on sale once or 2ce a year etc.

It will be interesting to see if people fall back on their grandmother's cleaning items, once they realize how much money they will save?

Oh, about the seafood....I think it depends where you live. I can get dungeness crab, and even abalone etc. very, very reasonably, as long as it's in season, because it comes in fresh on the boats. If you don't live near the coast, it would be more expensive.

Lobster was once considered junk in some places, and you couldn't give it away. Things have certainly changed!

Have any of you heard of Angel Food Ministries? You purchase what they offer for $30.00 a month and then they offer specials that you can add onto. Nothing is out dated,it doesn't matter what your income is etc..We finally have a couple places in Delaware that have it.Last month was our first trying it and I was quite impressed!
