Like most people who post questions, this is my first time incubating my own eggs. I usually have a broody which makes life easier...
Anyway, I did reading etc and bought a reptile hygro/ thermometer to check my new unit and hope it's all within acceptable ranges as I started incubating last night. I had a lot of trouble getting the humidity right in the first 6 hours but it's ok now. (I just added too much water and should not have trusted the booklet 😒). Anyway, how long does it normally take for an additional thermometer to stop rising and settle? I'm literally sitting here like an old grandma, minding an incubator.

I’m slightly confused about the thermometer rising and settling part, but I would say give it 24-48 hours.

Ah, thank you. It did take a long time (using a reptile one) to come up to the suppsoed temp and read back correctly. The Incubator comes up much quicker and so does the hygrometer. I will check calibation and calibrate the additional one tomorrow, if needed.

Okay. I will explain what I have discovered, which is pretty much what everyone says. Do NOT trust the incubator is correctly calibrated in every regard. The internal 'temperatures' on both instruments are very equal. I can live with the half degree difference, as long as I keep them in the acceptable range for incubation and so far this has not been a problem. It is a brand new, genuine Janoel 8-48.
However, the hygrometer is way off!
I suspected that the Janoel hygro was wrong rather then the 'Reptile One' additional hygrometer/thermometer (as the air just felt too dry in the Janoel for the readings I was getting.. we live in a humid climate so I am accustomed to guessing approx humidity). So I checked the Reptile One by using the suggested method of salt slurry in sealed ziplock bag. I left it overnight rather than 6 hours as I was going to bed. In the morning, it read 71% humidity in the bag, which is pretty close to the 75% it should have read...a little air may have escaped through cracks. However the difference between this hygrometer reading and the Janoel is between 17 and 22 percent (depending how accurately I performed the salt test calibration). See photos below. I did notice that the Reptile One takes longer to make adjustments to readings and steady. So I have been stressing for 2 days but feel I am in a reasonable zone now. Luckily, I weighed the eggs before putting them in so I can make judgements in a few days time as well as observe the air cell. Any comments or observations? The min. humidity in the Janoel is set to 45%. 60 might be a better average target.

Yes, I ALWAYS use an extra thermometer/hygrometer to check. And yes, I have done the salt trick to calibrate the hygrometer, I think that’s a good idea. I thought that you were supposed to use very little water though (I wouldn’t call it a slurry) not sure if that affects anything, but just to put it out there. I think it sounds good!
