Riverside, NJ PLEASE HELP!

If it ends up being you can keep them I suggest a rooster to get osme revenge.

I tried to find some info online with no luck. I know most counties will let you keep a few hens. I hope yours is one of them

Someone mentioned asking for the ordinance. I tried that, and was told the court clerk was too busy. I have searched online, and I have yet to find where the ordinances are published. I really don't want to show my face and make my intentions known.

Call back and ask again--specifically ask if the zoning code and city ordinances are online. Ask how to find out what your specific zoning it. You could mention that you are having potential issues with neighbors, and want to know the code and zoning before making an issue out of something that isn't.

If you are again told that the clerk does not have time, remind him/her that as a public employee, she works for you, and that you have the constitutional right to know the laws and ordinances to which you are subject. If you still get the run-around, ask to speak to the supervisor. If the code is not online (and you need to know both zoning and city code), you may have to go to city hall to get a copy.

The information may be listed under allowed and/or disallowed uses, and it may be listed under "animals."

Evan,

If you run into problems with getting chickens or guineas to control the ticks, there is a spray that can be used to control mosquitos, ticks, fleas and other insects. I just bought some but have not tried it yet. It might be organic but not sure. It is called Mosquito Barrier and is from a company called Garlic Research Labs, Inc. A friend of mine used it to control mosquitos but on their website they also claim tick, flea and gnat control. I had to give it a try.

Their website is www.mosquitobarrier.com.

Good luck with the ordinance issue and with trying to get some movement. Local gov't is often times very difficult to see that they work for us especially in NJ.
