Roadrunner Baby is Sick. What do I do?

Hmmm. If you can open the beak with one hand and insert the food on the end of a toothpick with the other hand it might work ... I have fed baby birds that way before with some success.

Thank you so much for all of your thoughtful comments. The poor little guy did not make it. I called my vet earlier and he told me what I suspected. It had pneumonia, and probably was sick already before it was found, that is likely why it was out of the nest in the first place. The pinfeather stage is a tough one for baby birds. Sad doings. At least he was warm and as comfortable as possible rather than being eaten alive by ants.

I'm very sorry but you've got a great perspective on the situation! You gave him a far better chance than he would have had on his own!

I've care for so many baby bunnies (wild and domestic) wild birds and even possums and little mice that I can safely say that there's usually a reason they've been found; either they're out on their own, injured or momma abandoned them and then there's the "why" of how that came to be.

I've lost far more than I've saved or at best 50/50 so my goal was always to just keep them safe and comfy as long as possible.

You did a very sweet thing for that little guy! :hugs

Awww. Well I'm sorry to hear. But I agree with @Henriettamom919 , you did a good thing. Your compassion speaks well of you. Bless you!
