Rob's First Incubation Attempt - Questions and Journal

An update:

I've got this incubator right next to my desk. I've grown accustomed to the constant on, off, on, off, on, off, on, off, on, off, on, off, on, off, on, off, on, off, on, off, on, off, on, off, on, off, on, off, on, off, on, off, on, off, on, off, on, off, on, off, on, off, on, off, on, off, on, off, on, off, on, off, on, off, on, off, on of the fan / heater.

Last night we went ahead and removed the eggs from the turner and increased the humidity.

10 mins ago I was typing along and heard a tiny peep. Totally caught me by surprise, but got me more excited than I expected. The cute sound really personalizes that blob of goo I've been candling over the past 2 weeks.

So, we sit and wait. My only thought is that it seems early to hear a cheap, no? We set the eggs on the morning of the 10th.

My eggs in my Hovabator always hatch on day 20 and that is with temps right on 100 degrees with the forced air. Good luck and have fun with it.

Well sometimes the peep comes a day before the pip and the pip comes a day before the zip so you still may not see a chick for a while.

Sit on your hands and wait...stare at the 'bator...
These are the days of our lives....

If you set them the morning of the 10th, that is your first day so today would be day 20. Peeping happens and so do pips on day 20.

They are telling you they are getting ready!!

Patience!!!

I never thought I was losing my mind more so than when I hatched my very first batch of eggs. I thought I heard a cheep.....nah, couldnt be. I stood over the bator and listened and nothing. Must have just thought I heard it. Back in the kitchen.....cheep.....ran back to the bator, I SWEAR I heard that. Stood there and listened, nothing. Back to the kitchen.....cheep....

I just figured I had indeed lost my mind and just left it at that.

This is enthralling to me- the bator is on the way, and the eggs shall be soon! I am already beside myself!

Wouldn't you know, the Hova-bator company is just 2 hours south of me, in Savannah, GA. I got all set to yell "ROAD TRIP" to the dogs, when the lovely lady there said shipping was only about $10.00. So I said ship it, I can't drive down there and back for that!

Very pleasant people to deal with except- the lady in sales knew NOTHING about chickens.

GQF = makers of hovabator
GQF = Georgia Quail Farm

They sell quial eggs and provide private hunting and sportsman lodges with quail for release for hunting.

Until I moved up here and married I lived less than 100 miles north of them too.
