So I got this “barred rock rooster” as a chick from my friends store and some are telling me it’s a Maran so I’m very confused but today I noticed he is growing a lot of gold and green feathers so I don’t know,my friend said he didn’t have any gold marans so any other ideas?

It will be interesting to see how he develops; more full body pictures will help a lot too.
Plymouth Rocks have yellow legs, while Marans have white skin and legs. The white legs are dominant, so one parent with white legs will produce white legs in their chicks.
If the store gets their chicks from a hatchery, as most do, find out where, and then what breeds that hatchery carries.
Suprises do happen!

what color are his legs?
He's not full barred rock, or if he's a cuckoo marans, he's not a full one of those. The gold leakage indicates something else in there. For both breeds, the feathers should be gray and charcoal or black. The green, that's just the sheen from the light hitting black on feathers... which will happen on any bird of any species of any gender that has black on their feathers.

Thanks and here’s more pics

he's a beautiful bird, but yea... all that gold leakage means something with the gold gene, like a buff orpington or something, is mixed in there.
Does ideal hatchery breed birds that have leakage like this? And is it possible to kee breeding it and get more with copper and orange and make our own species or no?
