The pullets started laying.
I had a barred rock rooster before and he was really pretty, he was a big boy too, quite tall and well built. He was super friendly with people and real gentle with the ladies. Unfortunately a fox got him and later got both of his sisters, but I still have his brother( who isn't barred but is completely black) and he's the head rooster now.Haha yeah they don't!![]()
My rooster was a Barred Rock, he was a very pretty rooster but he was SUPER protective of the chickens.
congrats on the new layers. The pullets started laying.
Nice, where are you greeting them from? A hatchery or breeder? Silkies, at least all my silkies, don't seem to eat that much compared to my other breeds like ISA browns or production reds. They aren't the greatest layers as a breed, but will give an okay amount of eggs, normally 3 or so a week. I always thought that they lay creamy white eggs, cuz that's what all of mine have laid, but one of my silkie hens started laying pink eggs. It's weird because before she went broody this last time, she laid cream white eggs too, but now they are pinkish. As for friendliness, it depends on the individual, most of mine have been friendly and people could go up to them and pick em up and stuff, but I have one that doesn't like people too well( I think it's because of her previous owners) and I have had roosters that aren't mean to me, but terrorize the other chickens both hens and roosters, needles to say that those two are long gone. And my cousin had a partridge rooster that attacked people, so it largely depends on the individual and how they are cared forI may get a silkie this spring. How are they? Are silkies friendly?
congrats on the new layers.
