Can my hens eat rolled oats and flax seed? I was in the bulk section buying stuff for me and was looking for stuff for them too. What other bulk foods could i get them?

I feed my girls oatmeal, I cook it for them, and put in some cinnamon too!

Also flax seed is good for them as well. Although, I've heard on the forum, that too much can make their eggs have a fishy taste to them.

I give my girls a little cooked oatmeal with quinoa and flax seed. I haven't noticed a fishy taste. I limit the flax to just a couple of tablespoons on the top.

You can either way but on a cold morning warm sounds nice just be careful because crops can get burned easily...

Edit: I also give mine split peas, quinoa, armanth, and millet.

other good grains are wheat (high protien) and Barley but I'm allergic so I don't feed them HTH's

Rolled oats don't need to be cooked. They can be fed as-is.

I use them for chick scratch in the brooder.

By the time the birds are grown they get whole grains. Rolled oats are too expensive to use with them.

I cook the oatmeal then add about 3/4 cup of flax seed for 4-6 cups cooked oatmeal. when cools i put it in a long trough. sometimes i add plain yogurt 1 large cotainer or maybe 2 . this is best in the cooler seasons.
i have not give uncooked oatmeal to them yet but plan tonight with some raisins.
I SELL MOST OF MY EGGS NO COMPLAINTS OF FISHY TASTE

you can feed oatmeal for sure, cooked or uncooked. I buy 25lb bags of wheat in the grocery section of my Walmart for the birds. I order flax seed and rolled oats for the birds from my feed store. flax seeds are small and a little goes a long way.
