Huh? My post, #7, said this - "Rolled oats were recommended many years ago as food for chicklets. These, a few shreds of green stuff and some hard-boiled egg, figured highly in their diet."
In other words - yes.

ok, ok, ok lol i get it! I was going to get hubby to bring home some of the horse baked oats home and try then on it especially as i dontt have to heat it up first. thanks Davaroo x

Do make sure that it is the soft sort of oat, like what you get in the boxes for breakfast. The old-fashioned kind is fine, but start them sparingly on it.
Meanwhile, never stray far from their usual ration until they get several weeks on them. Stability is better than feeding "treats."

well okay then,,,I will start doing this tomorrow if I can remember LOL. It will help save on the feed bill for the meat chickens hubby just came home with.
Feeding the chicks eggs does that not later cause them to eat their eggs later if they are hens?

Not at all. Now youre thinking like a human, not a chicken. They don't know anything about hard boiled eggs.... or eggs in general.
They are unsympathetic brutes and an egg means nothing to them. They dont eat eggs as hens because they remember the hard boiled egg they ate as chicks. Egg eating as a behavior happens for wholly different reasons.

I will check the egg count tomorrow in the fridge and see what I have and start making them some eggs. And be nice to have some egg salad sandwiches too for us humans. I will get the oats out as soon as I post this so I can remember to take them with me outside.

Okay. How is it going. Ive been thinking about your little oatmeal chicks...

they are doing really well. I fed them some egg and oatmeal today and they LOVED it. so I am thinking maybe once a month I will feed this to them and the rest of the chicks as eggs permit lol
I was thinking today to get a bunch of hens for just eggs and the ones I have now for breeding till winter time atleast.
