I hear that—just thought if it had the loose, egglayin lookin sorta vent it would most likely be a hen! But it looks tight and yellow like its legs.

A few days ago, I bought a bird from Rural King and it’s supposed to be a rooster. It is barred w bronze feathering coming in around the neck and a few other places, plus some green feathers. Its comb is pale, which makes me think it might be sick. Not sure of age or breed or anything anymore!

You're exactly right that looking at the vent can tell layers from not-layers. Layers have to be female, but not-layers could be males or females.

Actually, those can easily be plain old eggs. All eggs have that white spot. It's part of the egg. If he's a roo, he should look like one by now. Eggs are not fertile unless you observe actual mating activity.

He is a cockerel. Whether you look at the egg or not. He had very obvious male feathering, even a month and a half ago. He looked like one then, and I'm sure he looks like one now.
