First of all, please forgive the mess. We’ve had SO much rain and I took these before tidying the run. 🤭 These babies will soon have a huge new run and coop and get to integrate with our other babies! However…
We need to know who we need to try to rehome or cull, roos-wise. The problem is they only crow when we’re not looking. 😂 So picking out roos that way isn’t much of an option. I swear they do it to make us look over.

First of all, I’m 99% certain these two are roos. Honestly really 100%. One I believe is a black sex link roo, and the other is a CCL/barred rock mix as an olive egger? Correct me if I’m wrong! Trying to learn. 💙🤭

The olive egger(?) roo (?) is a doll baby. Still skittish a bit, but allows an occasional gentle pet but mostly just watches the others. Pretty Boy, the one I’m really certain is a roo (with the red) is super observant, never getting into real tangles like the barred rock (?) boys, and watches us from afar. Will let us pick him up IF we need to but isn’t a huge fan of us humans trying to pet him (reasonable). So these two SO FAR have had great personalities. I know rooberty (🤭) can change a lot, but so far these are ones who, if roos, I would feel safer giving to another home vs culling with the stated expectation they may not always be great.

Now onto the others…

This one is an… Australorp? Again please correct me if I’m wrong. 😂 I’m loving learning about all the different breeds! Took a while to get a comb/wattles but seems super dark compared to a similar one (though that one has a little mohawk - so assuming that one is an egger).
One side of the wattles is a lot longer than the other. No injury though, so not sure if that’s just how it’s growing! SO FAR has seemed like a total toss-up between hen and roo for me. I’m clueless!

Annnd this baby. Comb and wattles are getting red but all the other barred rocks have RED red. Not to mention if she is BR then her pattern seems more like a pullet to me?

Hahaha unfortunately, we did expect that. 😂 There’s a bunch more roos that I’m 99% sure on, but was curious about these breed wise too. We got 20 with 10 sexed and 10 straight run. 1 posed away at two days (we think ftt sadly) but it’s looking more and more like we’ve got 6-7 hens. Oof! I’ll get pics of them all eventually to post here to be absolutely certain. But yeah, we think we got a sexed run and another sexed run instead of straight… for cockerels. 🤭

Unfortunately the last one looks like the only pullet:hmm

You are correct, the first two are definitely male. The first one may be a copper marans or marans mix, or some other mix. He's not a sexlink though. Female black/blue sexlinks would have that coloration, males would be single barred similar to female barred rocks. Only, y'know, with male attributes. Olive egger is probably accurate for the second one.

The third one, with that much comb/wattles and color at 8 weeks is almost certainly male too. But if you wanted to wait a little longer to make that call it wouldn't hurt anything.

Fourth one looks like a pullet. You are correct, if she's a barred rock she has female coloration (single barred). If she's a mix then you can't go by that because a barred bird mixed with a non-barred bird will never give you double barred males. But her comb and wattles are still small and pale, so even if she is a BR mix I still think you're good.

Wow, this was really informative! How cool! Thank you. :wee Thankfully we were already mentally prepared for lots of roos from this batch. Living in an area with no roo limits too and agriculturally zoned REALLY helps us be able to get time to figure out who’s who. Or, who’s roo. 🤭

Copper marans mix was something else I was leaning too for the first. He’s really gorgeous! So fun to learn about what we’ve got.

1st pic: 2 pullets, 2 cockerels
2nd pic: 2 cockerels
3rd pic: front bird is a pullet
I’m super glad the last pic front girl is a pullet! She’s a bit of a scampering mess, but very sweet once you’re settled down with them for a while and everything is calm. 💙

Super excited we’ve got some olive egger (?) hens too. A lot of our growing babies are Americanas/EEs, and even a handful of prarie bluebell eggers, so a nice rainbow basket of eggs will be fun.
