Roo attack!

I agree 100% with speckledhen; you can't really get mad at a rooster or blame it for exhibiting natural behavior. I'm glad to hear you are rehoming him though, as a roo could do some serious damage on a young child. Not to mention that a bad experience with a rooster at that age can really color a child's opinion of chickens; I've met a number of people now who despise them due to childhood encounters with roos. You wouldn't want the kiddos to live in fear of the family flock, nor grow up to be chicken haters, after all!

Personally, I like aggressive roosters, even if they're hard to work with. I've found that they are EXCELLENT protectors of their hens - which is generally why they attack people to begin with! I've had roosters stand up to birds of prey, feral cats, maurading dogs, etc. saving my hens. Heck, my current 'roo had the stones to kick a pitbull that was tearing through the fencing right in the face and sent it packing. I can't help but admire that tenacity, even if it means I need to work carefully in the coop.

Luckily no one was hurt. He jumped on her when she turned her back to him and she just got scared. I was right there, less the 12 inches away and I picked her up. It is the fact that he came after me about 14 more times! From what I have read on here over then past two years is that there is NO reason to deal with a nasty rooster because there are pleanty of nice ones. I am going back to my original plan of NOT having any roosters. This will better suit me and my family

I don't care how good he is with the girls - this is my house, my yard, my coop, my run, and my family. I want everyone and anyone who comes here to feel safe. I shouldn't have to watch my back everyday when I give them fresh water/feed/and clean up after them. The rooster isn't going to run the show. Anyway, I'll be happy when I find him a new home - he sure is pretty!

Well said and I have the same attitude. I will never let compassion for an animal overrule my own wishes and my familys safety.
