I too feel your pain ~ the pain of going to work the next day and having people stop me in the hall with, "Oh my God, what happened to your hands?? They're PURPLE!"

I know some will not agree with this, but this is my opinion and from personal experience, so please take it for what it is.

A rooster MUST be the leader and protector of the flock. If he was my roo, he would still be in the pen with the hens (as long as there is no other roo). Blood and battles must sometimes ensue for him to take the correct role and lead the girls. If that means, he gets beaten down, so be it. He is worthless if he can't lead.

I can pretty much assure you that they will not kill him and have dealt with this same situation some years ago. I introduced a younger (breeding age) cockerel into a pen of laying hens. They did the exact same damage to him as I see on your roo. I did not doctor him up and he healed just fine with his long lived battle scars. I left him to fend for himself and take his appropriate role as leader and protector of his flock. He established order within a few days and became a wonderful leader and protector for his girls. They followed him everywhere and readily squatted at his command. This is how it should work. If it doesn't, the flock is not secure. JMHO
