Found roo stuck yesterday laying down behind log. He couldn't get up or hold head up. Let him rest for a while and he was back to normal. Now his legs are really swollen and skin is peeling. I don't know what this is to treat it. Is it frostbite or mites?

My first thought was leg mites, but given the other symptoms, maybe not! Did your rooster dust bathe in some hot woodstove ashes, by chance? Or even cold ashes? That almost looks like a burn... either heat or chemical burning.

I feel like I shouldn't be excited, but I moved him inside to treat for frostbite, and after, I had to head to work. Came home to mites on the cage he is in. He is also walking again, after a good foot washing we found his toe nails. I just finished spraying...permithrin(I think that's what it is) now to give a certain nosey dog a bath...

Okay, so I have treated him for mites, by spraying him, and cleaning out bedding, and spraying with permithrin. His feet and legs are still swollen, with open sores I assume from the mites. I worry he still has mites on his legs, but with the sores, what is the best way to treat his legs so I can finally clean up the wounds?

I had treated my chickens with antibiotics, but for a different thing. I don't think it would hurt to use antibiotics on the open sores. It would help to prevent something new from infecting him.
