That's a rooster, he's mounting the other hens to perpetuate his genes.
As for his feathers in the nesting box, sometimes a rooster will climb into a corner and make a nest. He'll chirp and make a fuss. He's doing this to show the hen that he's found a good nesting site. Maybe your little roo just wants to show his girls how wonderful that nest is.
