Roo or Rooster?

I have 3 6 month old Pullets and are look for a rooster. Is it better to look for a roo about their age or would an older bird take better care of them? For you guys that know any help would be appreciated.

I would get a bird their own age. The older one might bully them, mating them too much and exhausting them.

Its pretty hard to tell. Ameracuna is in there somewhere, but I could never tell what the other breeds might be. Thing is, if you're looking to breed at all, he would not be a good choice, simply because you cannot be 100% sure of his egg genes.
Also, in my opinion, an older roo is sometimes better. They are more gentlemanly, and you can get a better look at his temperament. Aggressiveness doesn't always show up the first six months or even the first year.

Young roosters are a pain in the butt generally. A mature rooster is often more patient, and mates less, but every rooster is different. Some are just pains no matter their age.

With just 3 pullets bringing in a male could be troublesome, especially if you are new to keeping chickens. Do you have a separate sheltered enclosure to put the cock/erel in if things go sideways? Lots of space for pullets to avoid male if needed?

Actually just the opposite is more often true.....a good older cockbird is more likely to treat them better than a same age immature cockerel.

we have 3 coops now because we have 3 groups. 3 hens that are 3 year olds, 3 hens that are 6 month olds and 2 hens that are just 8 weeks. I had planed on building a temp to keep him in beside the run of the coop hopefully he will reside for a week or two. That coop is a 5x5 6 feet tall and the run is a 5 x 20. all the coops are separate and we let them out at different times to free range for an hour or so.

My Pal actually breeds Chickens and he successfully keeps one Rooster to 2 or 3 Hens..A young Rooster before aged one is called a Cockerel...Rooster at one year old...
