Roo squeaking

It could be respiratory.......I have only ever used OXY TETRA -A.......For respiratory issues.......Cant be cured but helps with symptoms.......

I am not one to medicate Chickens.....I provide 100% balanced diet for my Birds.....Healthy Birds do not get sick.....I only feed age appropriate feed....Treats once a week at 5%......1 tablespoon per bird......Grit, and oyster shell...

Not sure if that help you?

Cheers!

They have pine shavings in the coop. I clean it out and replace annually. This is my first unexplainable illness in 6 years of chicken keeping.

I am afraid it is something viral which will have to resolve on it's own but if there are other options, I don't want them sick/suffering if I can help them out.

I don't prefer to medicate, i prefer prevention as well.

Coop will be getting an extra clean out and bleaching this afternoon.

You are most likely correct that it is a viral respiratory disease and that it will resolve on it's own. I have one in my flock that does the rounds every once in a while. I don't medicate and they get over it when they are ready. Antibiotics will only treat any secondary infection, not cure it, so that is why they still have symptoms despite treating them.

I use a vapour rub on the congested ones to help open their airways and allow them to breath more easily. I believe there is a product called Vet-RX in the states specially formulated for chickens with this.

I believe it is caused by Dust.....Chickens are very Dusty......I clean mine fully every fall and spring....I use sand in my coop and run....

That sure might be a quick fix....

Best of luck...

Cheers!

I have seen the vet-RX but not used it. I had also given them some electrolytes/vitamens. I cleaned and bleached waterers yesterday and replaced with water with ACV only. I will see how that goes. My most affected girls were out looking hungry this morning and scratching for treats when I opened up so hopefully they are on the up-swing.

Thanks.

I would also suggest trying something like VetRx.

It could be respiratory disease, but you aren't seeing any signs of discharge, mucous, facial swelling, etc. Antibiotics are an option, but will only treat any secondary infections (complications) from illness, so that route would be best saved until you start to see more or worsening signs/symptoms and have used other methods of treatment.
