Hi y’all! New chicken momma here! First post too!! Anyway... I have a question. We have a little cockerel that has a broken toe... I’m guessing he broke it getting away from the snake in our coop a few weeks ago. We just recently noticed it but it’s been broken so long there’s nothing we can do to fix it... and it doesn’t seem to bother him anyway and he’s obviously not hurting. Well... my question is... will that broken toe prevent him from “being able to fertilize eggs”? We want to keep him because he’s super sweet... but we need to keep one of the guys that can do their job.

I stepped on our rooster’s foot and broke one of his toes when he was seven weeks old. It was never corrected. He limped for a few days to a week and hasn’t had any difficulty with it since. I have oodles of chicks to show for his reproductive efforts.

As long as he is able to walk/roost and catch the ladies, he should be fine.

He is walking and roosting just fine! He acts like it doesn't even bother him. He's still got quite a while before he's gonna be chasing the ladies ;)
