Roo????

Wondering if my Mabel is actually Morty. :/ 6.5 week old Barred Rock from the Country Store at 1 week old.

I could be wrong I'm no expert, only going off my 7 female Barred Rocks. In the picture the bird looks dark but it could be the lighting, darker feathers indicates female but the comb and color looks male. Another male indicator is clean legs without staining.if it's their its A female indicator a darkish stain down the front of their legs feet and toes. In this picture I can not see staining. So I'm going to guess male. Just going by a comparison to my females. But like I said, I'm not a expert so get more opinions and see what others have to say. beautiful bird by the way! I just love♡♡ barred rocks!

That's a roo! That red comb and waddles, plus the lighter barring all point to roo. I have 7 week old BR pullets and they are darker and don't have that developed red comb.

Well, you all were correct. Mabel turned out to be Morty (actually, Maynard). He stayed with me until he started crowing (beautiful song!!!) and then was rehomed with a friend who has a flock of 14 hens and one old rooster. I am in the city limits and am not allowed to have roos. He is doing great and enjoying the good life.
