7 week old Red Cochin Bantam. This is Lucille; she's starting to look like a cockerel to me. What do you think?

Thanks! I'm in San Diego and can't have a rooster. I hope I can give it away!!

Looks like a cockeral to me too. I always look at the wattles. This seems to me (I've had about 125 chicks to sex that I've hatched on my farm) the easiest and most tell-tail way to compare.

And if you have any others of the same breed/type, the comparison is what really helps. In other words, lets say you have several Buffs or say several RIR. The way to tell the cockerals from the pullets is by comparing them to each other. The cockerals will look similar in terms of wattles (and combs) and the pullets will look similar to each other in terms of wattles and combs.

Hope this helps,
Guppy

Thank you. And, I was afraid you'd say that. I have one other Red Cochin Bantam (same age) and they definitely look different! I starting noticing a difference at about 2 weeks of age. Thanks for all your help!
