IMG_5609.JPG IMG_5610.JPG IMG_5612.JPG I was guaranteed no roo's when we got our chicks. I think I have one in my flock. It's my Buff. So, what are your thoughts? If a roo, are they typically pretty docile roo's?

It's around 12 weeks old. My friend brought him to my kids for Easter. Got it at Orchelins in the Buff bin that they said were all hens.

Cockerel. Hatcheries are 90% accurate when vent sexing, so it is possible to get an oops male.

Chicks are often put in the wrong bins at feed stores, Tractor Supply is notorious for this.
And as said in previous post, sexing is not 100% accurate unless they are sex links, most people eventually end up with an accidental cockerel.
It does look like a cockerel to me, and personality is very individual. If he seems very friendly now (or worse, aggressive), he may be a problem as he matures. If he's more standoffish and gets out of your way and gives you space, then he may turn out to be alright. I would not let a young, hormonal cockerel be with children in any case, not worth the risk. Kids are more likely to be attacked than adults as they are smaller and move differently. When it comes to kids and cockerels, caution is the best policy, especially when the spurs come in.
