Roof or No Roof Over Run?

Thank you so much for all of your helpful responses. I have ordered a gabled roof for over top of the run. I had to rake up wet straw today. Yuck.

Hi,

Just about finished adding a roof to my coop-run. We get lots of snow in the Winter and it rains a lot too, so a roof seemed the logical addition for our setup.

As you can see we still quite a bit of work left to finish our coop!

no roof invites all sort of beasties that just love an hen or two. Over the wire roof a tarp or cover of your choosing can keep the weather at bay in regards to having wet chickens, and keeping the run dry

As mentioned in the OP, I do have a hard cloth roof to keep predators out. I was asking about putting a solid roof over top to keep snow and rain out. I guess I was concerned about the lack of sunlight but since they will be free ranging in a half acre space, I'm sure it will be fine.

I use heavy plastic over Run roof in winter. I had gotten new mattresses and they came in the heavy plastic. It worked fine. I try to make do with what I have.

My brother in law is a commercial shrimper so we used shrimp nets for my roof. My gals still refuse to go into the house to get out of the rain. They just stand in it. Im thinking about the tarp idea.
