Roof

Yes I used them on the roof of my most recent coop and the wind tore it apart in places. So I would say make sure you don't get strong winds. I would use metal if I could do it again. I had to patch mine up with a metal sheet.

I was just talking to a friend of mine and he said the same thing. He said use metal roof and put a sheet of clear in the middle for sunlight
 
When they can see the eggs clearly it becomes a tempting pecking target. Also if you keep golf balls or fake eggs in the nests that helps to prevent egg eating too.

Some people put curtains across the front of the nest boxes. I use covered kitty litter pans with sand inside.

We have curtains as well. We have roll away nest boxes too. Theres a few that lay in the corner of the coop and they don't touch them though.
 
I have one large window on one side, 7'x4' that opens, one on the back wall that is a bit smaller and doesn't open, and the door infant and a small hatch on one side for them as well
