Roos fertility life span....?

I am wondering about my big Buff Orp roo. Lately the eggs are not fertile. About 50%. He is about 5 years old. Time to replace? What is the average fertility age span?

I get a new Rosster every year for my breeding program.(to inroduce new Genes) I get new females every two years. So you should probably get some new stock.

My Araucana rooster's fertility seems a bit low this spring. I am hoping when spring arrives it will pick up a little........

Just as with all animals, it varies from bird to bird as well as from strain to strain. Introducing a new rooster every third year or so for genetic diversity is generally a good idea.

Up until this past fertility check a few weeks ago, my Key West roo has always been fertile. But, he will be 10 this summer. I think it has more to do with the pullet not wanting to be with him. Im gonna check again when some of the older ladies start laying again.
