Your hen may be getting dry fowl pox--it's not that serious unless in gets into the nose and throat, and becomes wet fowl pox. It's a virus that runs it's course in a few weeks. Does it look like this? https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/690442/is-this-fowl-pox

I'll have to pick up a copy, it sounds like a great book.
I spent about an hour and a half out there this am. Swept up the coop and layed down more bedding. He has diahrea, but it's not green or yellow, nothing floating in it. Just clear or light brown. I checked them all for mites and parasites, all clear. However his vent was wet, not sure if that's because he slept in his poo (he had some on his side too) or because he just had diahrea. One of my hens has a pea comb and it's starting toturn black and looks like it has warts. I hope we don't lose the whole flock. He did seem a little more himself this am, but he can't jump and he keeps going back and forth. Better for a few days then sick again

If he has diarrhea you may want to pick up a vitamin supplement to help him fight off what he is dealing with. I have horses, when they have an issue I call the vet out. I really don't know of a vet that goes on chicken calls. Unfortunately the value of a chicken is not enough to make a vet call worth while

Duke was our very first chicken :-( all others we've quarantined for a month. And are building a second coop for our younger chicks. That are still in a brooder. In the future I agree I won't just bring home a chicken because someone offered it to me, no matter how sweet it is. We do try to take precautions with their health, I bought everyone in the fam "chicken boots" to be worn at the coop only. I made sure to feed and water them well before going to the county fair so that I could get clean and wait 24-36 hrs before tending to them again. Thought we were doing everything right, but I guess I'll have to figure out what happened and learn from it. Thank you all so much for your help with this

You may have done things correctly, mosquito bites may be the problem as they carry diseases. What do we do about that???

There are so many things that can cause issues with our chickens.

Duke passed last Friday. Turns out his gizzard had a blockage. Nothing we could've done other than culled him a month ago so he didn't have to suffer. The gizzard was swollen and hard, but the tissue on the outside was more like cartilage than soft tissue. Relieved it want contagious, but heartbroken over my fav Roo
