Roost and Nesting box ??????

How far do each of these need to be off the ground, i know the roost needs to be higher than the boxes.

Most people seem to use 18" to 24" for the bottom of the opening of the nesting box. The roosts need to be "clearly" higher than the top of the nesting boxes. I'd go with 12" minimum.

As usual the answer is, 'it depends'.

For larger breeds the next boxes should be about a foot off the ground and the roosts about 2 feet. Banty owners will likely disagree! Check my home page for pics of ours.

It also depends on the breed. Silkies and cochins should have lower boxes and roosts then others.

My standard cochins prefer the Nest boxes that are on the floor of their house. They roost 1' and 2.5' off the floor.
