I am modifying a premade coop that seems to have a lot of changes necessary. I already added ventilation. Now I need to change the roost bars, which were apparently inappropriate in the first version (too narrow, not enough space, too low). So the question is in the title: how much head space do they need. I have venting now across two walls on the top 3 inches of the coop. Assuming we don't want their heads in the path of the cross draft, how much lower should the roost bar be from the vents?
I did try searching old forums but didn't see this exact question.
btw: the coop I got was the half flap hen house: http://halflaphenhouse.com/. my new roost will go across lengthwise, and attach to the two green walls.
Also I am doing an exterior nesting box add on as well -- lest readers are concerned about space issues. I plan to have 3-4 hens.
Thanks so much! Love you guys.
