I am new to chickens and designing a coop. Am I correct that roosts need to be higher than the nesting boxes? I don't want them roosting on nesting boxes.
Thanks for any help.

Yes, almost all chickens want to roost on the highest available thing. It's a survival instinct. The roosts need to be clearly higher than anything else you don't want them to roost on. Exactly how much higher depends on the size of your coop and how close they are to the nest boxes. I generally go with about one foot so there is no question.
