How high is to high? What is to low? the newbies want to know!
Oh, and what kind of slope should I be aiming for in a ramp for them?

I'm planning building a coop from scratch, with a row of nesting boxes topped by a poo tray and roost. I plan on getting full sized hens, hopefully austrailorps. How high can i expect them to jump into the nesting boxes or to get on a roost?

My roost in this coop is probably too high but chickens like to roost at the highest level. If you look on the opposite wall you will see my nesting boxes. I don't like to bend over to gather eggs. Some say the birds should be able to flap their wings once when departing the roost & landing on the ground. Just give them a good unobstructed runway to land on. Other words nothing in their way.
