Roost & poop board design

Awesome. I appreciate all of the guidance and advice. I'll block off nesting boxes tonight, and fix that ramp. I like your idea of propping up lower end, to lessen angle.

It is rough, which was intentional for better gripping with their toenails, but I didn't understand it could injure them! I'll plane it smooth tonight, and find a way to prop it up.

Thanks!

I hit any rough spots and sharp edges with a sander with coarse(60-80grit)paper.

It's the cleats that give them the best grip IMO....looks like you're good there.
Some folks use grip tape, like on a skateboard, or all kinds of other things...but some of those can be hard to clean.
I like a plain board with cleats, easy to scrape off when I do 'clean' them... once in a great while.

Time was short last night, and with a car in my shop at the moment, I didn't want to fire up the old planet. So, I just pulled the cleats and flipped that S1S board over to the smooth face, reinstalling the cleats on the smooth side. Also shortened it and propped it up to a shallower angle, as you suggested.

Also blocked off the nesting boxes. Our easier egger was still trying to get in after, but no success for him.

Well, the coop is secure. My wife locked herself in it, as she was tending the chickens while I was out of town. She didn't realize I had a pull cord inside to release the exterior latch.

She managed to tear off the screen I had temporarily fastened over the pop door hole, and climb out thru the 9" X 12" pop door opening. If I compliment the way her rear end fit thru that small opening, do you think she'll forgive me for not showing her the latch release cord?

1. Always carry cell phone, have neighbor's numbers.
2. Keep pull rope in working order.

No cell phone coverage here.
I just don't use them anymore, still have one on a gate but it can be reached from either side.
PetHatePeeve for them...haha!
Many other better options, I have screen door springs on all my coop and run doors to automatically close them.
Then either a spring loaded hook and eye or a hasp latch with carabiner for locking.

Roosts are on hinges, they raise and secure to rafters. Poop boards are also on hinges, they fold up, secure to the wall. Ramps are hinged and fold down out of the way. Legs that hold up poop boards will fold up as well once I get more hinges. Deep cleaning should be much easier this way. We will see once I put them to use.

Welcome to BYC @sgtjmc33 !
Nice hinging!
Curious how far from the wall are the top roosts?
They look pretty close and the poops from birds roosting there may end up on the wall.
Would love to see all those roosts full of adult birds...let us know how it works out.
