Roost!?!?

Why is it not good for them not to roost?
The main reason is that if they were to get out of your coop, for any reason, if they aren't used to roosting, they will bed down on the ground and be exposed to predator attack, giving you no chance to find and save them, but if they roost, which is natural for chickens, they would find a place off the ground to sleep and be safe from an attack, allowing you more time to recover them.

Oh right I see ur point, but don't get me wrong they have the option to roost but choose to sleep on top so il let them carry on with what they feel natural, thanks for the advice :)

I have a smaller coup, but with two roosts. One against the back wall (lower-I think it is about 20 inches off of the floor) and a higher roost along the side. I have the nesting boxes blocked off as they are not old enough. So far so good. They were fighting over the lower roost, now they fight over the top roost by the door. The roosts are about 3 inches above the poop trays. the two up close are sitting on the poop tray edge, but they settle onto the roost at night. I have 6 chickens. This was their second week in the coop.
