We have a black Cochin banty roo thats a bit "special" he walks funny and his wing hangs down some. He however has the "Little Man" syndrome and picks fights with the other 2 roos, also bantys but twice his size, so instead of keeping him in the chicken pen we put him in the rabbit pen which doubles as a nursery when we have chicks. Since taking the hen out that was somewhat overprotective and attacking us when we were in there I have noticed the chicks and the roo sleeping together in the nest. Anyone else have a roo helping raise chicks? I had also seen him in the nest with the babies while the hen was out wandering the pen.

I had a D'Uccle rooster finish raising three chicks after I lost his wife to a predator when they were two weeks old. The three chicks eventually got as big as he was, but still slept with their heads under him.

My rooster(OEG) acts like a doting Grandfather, he's always watching over the chicks, & offers tiny bits of food. Mama hen insists that he keep his distance!
