My 11 month old aracuana cross hen has white patches on her comb and wattles. What could this be, and what can I do to treat it?
She doesn't appear to be in pain and is eating & drinking normally. None of the others have this. Its summer

If you are seeing mosquitoes, it is possible that it is the dry form of fowl pox. Fowl pox is a virus carried by mosquitoes and lasts about a month. The scabs usually turn brown or darker. Don’t handle the scabs. There is no treatment that is needed, but some use Betadine to paint on the scabs, keeping it away from the eyes.

Thank

you! I realised after doing some research this was probably the case. I also found that it was reccomended to vaccinate the unaffected birds, do you agree with this? They are also 11 months old.

What is your location? How many birds do you have? In deep southern and tropical areas, fowl pox can be more serious. Vaccinations are for birds who have not been exposed. Some people separate the ones with pox scabs. Very few people vaccinate unless the disease is very common in your area. Vaccines take about 2 weeks to become effective, and it will probably take close to a week to obtain it from Jefferspet or Valleyvet online. They are sold in 1000 dose vials. It has to be used within an hour. It requires a cooler and ice for shipping. Here is some reading about the vaccine from the manufacturer:
