Hello
I have australorp hens which we raised since they were chicks and an australorp rooster, the rooster we got when he was already adult(about a year old) and he recently attacked my 3 year old boy and scratched his face, very close to the eye.

I am ready to put him down but since we only have one rooster and have predators I thought maybe there is another solution that any experienced chicken raisers are familiar with?

He never attacked me or my wife but he does run towards my 8 year old some times but never attacked her.

I thought australorps are children friendly which is why I got this breed in the first place, any advice would be very appreciated!

Terminate current rooster or least get rid of him if you do not have ability to reliably keep him from your younger child.. Develop other methods for managing predators. Then start working with older kid on how to behave around chickens. Do not allow younger child be in close proximity of next rooster or chickens in general until chickens more thoroughly vetted and / or child is more able to protect self around the chickens. Care must be taken not to traumatize child through actions of the parents. Cool head needed.

I agree with the lot...he can't be fixed. So thankful it wasnt the child's eye! I had to get rid of a rooster, recently. The rooster I have now has kicked at me a couple times, but he can only jump about 5 inches high, and does no damage whatsoever. That first rooster I had was leaving bruises high on my leg on a regular basis. I worried about my grandchildren being harmed.
