Famous story. My aunt's mutt came for a visit, got a hold of my rooster and ran all over the yard with him.
He was acting normal, so we thought he was okay. Yesterday, he was very lethargic and no longer crowing.
We trimmed feathers, and chose to stitch up his tail. (he has a 2" long gash). We rinsed with saline, added some tumeric (read about its healing properties online).
This morning I rinsed the wound with running water for 10 minutes then rinsed with saline.
I then gave him some penicillin procaine g (hoping I did the calculations properly).
I'm not hopeful he will make it, sadly as he is a beautiful bird.
My question is, how often do I give him the penicillin? Daily?
Thank you for reading.

When we gave penicillin procaine g injections we did it every other day. It's been a while since I researched it, but I think the intramuscular injections ore absorbed gradually, which extends the time in the blood stream. I think we gave three shots, total. Chickens can heal pretty well, so hopefully he will be back to normal soon. It doesn't hurt to give some yogurt or probiotics once he is done with his antibiotics.
