Rooster..Attacked Me!

I'd imagine it was because of the spray. He probably thought you were some stranger and was ready to defend his flock.

I have 2 roosters (and some hens)...raised both from babies and they are great. I'm away at college, but when I first come home to visit, they will nip/peck my hand when I initially try to pet them...but they soon remember it's me and they come running over for hugs and neck scratches - lol...they just sit in my lap and coo (the hens do it too).

My roosters aren't really very aggressive towards strangers (no where near the stories I heard about), but when things change they take notice very quickly and tend to get more suspicious. One time, I was out with them and decided to take their waterer and feeder in for a refill but grabbed a coat to wear on the way back out to their coop - my dominate rooster came charging over to me all puffed up, he kept his distance, didn't try to attack but just threatened.. I yelled at him and he heard my voice and backed down then came running over to me purring like a kitten, begging for treats - lol.

So, if he never attacked you before I really believe it was because of the fragrance and him mistaking you for a stranger... try talking to him and then see if he still shows signs of aggression...you can experiment with this situation a bit...wear a certain perfume, change your clothes, etc... see if/when he reacts, that way you'll know if it was a mistake or if he's really turning aggressive.

Equest94 Thanks for your suggestions. I will be experimenting with different things.
