The other morning our rooster was not crowing or greeting us at the porch like he normally does. I found him cowering up against the deck. He looked like he was in a fight overnight, plenty of feathers all over the yard.

It’s been two days and now he doesn’t leave the deck and his tail isn’t standing up. Overall he looks scared.

Any ideas what to do?

Have you brought him inside to examine him for injury? If not, that is the first step.
If it's cold where you are, he should be kept inside where is warm to recover.
Offer him some water with electrolytes and some soft food after you get him inside and examine him.
Post back with your findings.

It’s been warm here. I have examined him the first evening as that’s the only time I can get close or put my hands on him. Besides the loss of feathers I can’t find any injuries, bleeding or anything else. We have been keeping him up on the porch, away from his normal roost. It’s been raining for the past several days, but this morning the rains stoped and I had to coax him off the porch with some meal worms. We’ll see how it goes.

Is he the only male?
Yes he is the only male, he is the only chicken we have. It’s been that way for 2yrs now as the rest of our flow was devastated by a predator in the middle of the night. This is Not his first experience but the last time he was not attacked he was able to hide and not be traumatized.
