Oldest hen from Jan hatch died no idea why. She was fine yesterday.

So I decided to process the older cockerel because I can’t keep this many males. So imma keep the two mottled ones instead. And rest didn’t make the cut they either were males,had single combs or not mottled.
The 20250629 hatches

This one was chocolate but that single comb! So that’s why she got processed

These ones are 20250720 hatch
Both these were males and silver. Dont want that

Excuse my lurking, but I've been following along to see your pretty birds. And I've got to say, your processed birds are also beautiful!! Do you use a plucking machine, or scald, or some other method?

I occasionally harvest a bird but they are NOT pretty to look at. I need a lot more experience and to invest in better tools...

I finally bought a plucker this year! Before I’d have pins all over the place from hand plucking. Buying a plucker has made it so much easier lol and my water temp is 150-155 anything higher it cooks the bird anything lower doesn’t pluck nicely.

So gave this pen a pumpkin to carve we’ll see how it goes. This pen had a chocolate Easter egger that could be split mottled over two mottled hens and a black laced hen that’s split to mottling who lays green eggs. I have almost a doz eggs from that hen so imma test hatch to see if he’s split mottled or not.

Yes since the mottles haven’t started laying but the green egger was younger and started

Well the cockerel I was gonna use died. So now I have no male so prolly won’t be breeding these anymore Because I’d be generations set back now and that’s just getting to be a waste of time unless the ch is split mottled which I doubt.

Dang, I know how that feels tho. Sorry for the loss of the project.
