Rooster attacking hen.

I had this same thing happen a couple months ago, for whatever reason my cockerel did not accept one of my hens. It started with chasing her away, I left them be and figured they'd sort it out. It turned in to full blown attacks, the day he bloodied her up he got locked up, then sold. Always solve problems for peace in the flock!

I have had chickens for decades - never had this happen until this summer. This is not a pecking order issue. This is violent and aggressive, and there is not going to be a training or food to make it go away. And I agree with Auntie Jessi3. Solve for peace in the flock.

While I dinked around, letting her out of the pen, keeping him in or vice versa, I had mentally decided to cull the hen in my fall cull. But I had not gotten it done, when a coyote snatched him.

With him gone, she fit just fine with the other birds. I have a young cockerel growing up in the flock, and there does not seem to be a problem.

Sometimes for no apparent reasoning, the flock is not harmonious. And really the only real solution is to remove one of the birds. Always solve for peace in the flock.
