I just got a batch of whatever they put in the box chicks. I got straight run because I intend to put some in the freezer. I also do a lot of crafts that I use feathers for and I prefer to use ones that have been preened rather than ones I retrieve when slaughtering. The rooster I have now that is grown is from the orighonal batch of chicks I got in 2009. (the only one that has never attacked me) I do not want him to have to fight any new roosters. My question is, if one of the rooster chicks that I have now has developed really cool feathers and I would like to let him live, do roosters react the same as other animals to "neutering" I think it is called capon in chicken language (I will look it up) . Anyway, will it keep them from fighting with other roosters? Thanks

Yes they call them (the ex-rooster) capons. They are usually caponized at 3 weeks of age. The testicles are internal and you will really need to know what you are doing. I had the same idea to raise roosters for the freezer.....next year I am getting ''meat'' chickens because of the rooster drama around here!!! I received 42 chicks and 25 were hens. When these roos started to feel like ''men'' They had to be taken away from the hens and then they fought something terrible!! I butchered many of them early because of some being wimps and others being bullies. Now I have 9 left and they are in pens with the groups that will get along together. I have 1 with the hens now, I had 2 with them but they were driving my hens nuts!! They are all 19 weeks old and I am sure the roos wil settle down some when they get an adult chicken brain! Right now all they think about is breeding and being in charge of the flock.
