One day, I picked up one of my hens to check her over (make sure she has no health issues). As soon as I put her down, my rooster ran over and tried to mount her! I didn't try to interfere, but was awestruck as how my Roo immediately ran over as I put her down. Is that a strange behavior for a Roo or is it normal?

Not knowing the ages involved, leaves us guessing. I'm guessing that he took your treatment of her as a form of submission on her part, so he followed through. My rooster never passes up a chance.

My roo's age is 21 weeks, and my hen is about 14 weeks, chfite

Lol. Lucky you. I picked up my EE roos favorite hen the other day and he tried to attack me. All I had to do was put my foot up and say no and he backed right off but he did the same exact thing when she was free again. Then he did the "wing dance" around me to show who was boss lol. It would have been fun to let him get me as he's only 5 1/2 months old and has no spurs but you know.... I am not gonna put up with it. He's still keeping her away from me! Its been days. Gotta love a silly roo.
