Rooster Can't Crow, Contemplating Surgery

This part will sound really bad, but this is how I look at it, if I don't do something, he could very well die pretty much from suffocation, which would not be good. If I do something, he could still die or need to be put down, which would be slightly better. The part that will sound really bad is this, I have another PC rooster in my mix pen, so........

Added to that is the chance for a learning experience that could very well help in future chicken medical needs.

Yeah, I have to call my vet in the morning anyway, so may try to talk her in to helping me, she is pretty cool about this kind of stuff. I want to make sure I get dissovable stitches for the inside at least. I need some new scalpel blades too.

ask the vet for a bottle of sterile saline so that you can keep irrigating it as you go. I have done crop surgery and the hen lay quiet on her side because I had a towel over her. it worked out pretty well...but you do need the dissolving stitches and the saline for irrigation so you can keep it clean. once you open the skin you can probably feel your way carefully to where it is and what tube is what...but be sure to look carefully at the tubes.
I think you should do it because he will die without it and it likely wont hurt him in the way we perceive pain. Ive done so many different surgeries over the years and it seems like they just lay there for most of them. Some things seem to hurt like certain foot things, but the crop was very easy.
I hope you have an assistant.
I also use a jewelers magnifying headpiece, which Im sure makes me look like a freak, but....it really helps to see things up close if you need to.
Post pictures!! please!! Id love to see what you find inside and how it looks in there!
good luck!!

If I can't talk my vet into helping me out, in the name of science, my hubby will have to assist and not sure if he is up for that, he might be ok handing me instruments and taking pics, but he can't deal with stuff like this as far as having to reach in and handle stuff.
